How we make money

You should be able to tell, on any page, why we are recommending something. This page explains where our money comes from, so you can judge our advice properly.

We sell our own things

Almost all of our revenue comes from products we made: the book, the Micro Zone Manual, the printable card packs, the card decks, and consulting time. When you buy one of those, you are paying us directly. Prices are on the page, there is no subscription hidden inside a one-off purchase, and there is no recurring billing unless a page says so in the words next to the button.

We do not have affiliate relationships right now

Many sites in this category earn a commission when you buy a recommended product elsewhere. We do not, today. We have applied to a few programmes and none has been approved, so at the time of writing there is not a single link on this site that earns us anything when you click it.

If that changes, this page changes first, and every affected link will be marked where you see it, not only here.

When we do recommend a product

We name a product when it solves a specific problem in a specific zone, and we try to say what the problem is rather than just naming the thing. Where a cheaper or simpler answer exists, including doing nothing or using something you already own, we would rather say that. A recommendation that makes your home work is worth more to us than a sale.

What we will not do

• Invent reviews, testimonials, ratings or customer numbers.
• Claim a result we have not observed.
• Use countdowns, fake scarcity or invented discounts.
• Let a commission decide what we recommend, if we ever earn one.
• Hide a recurring charge inside a one-time price.
