6S Success publishes practical instructions for organizing and cleaning a home. Please read this before following any of them.

This is a guide to organizing and cleaning a home. It is not a safety manual, and it is not a substitute for a qualified professional.

Every task described in our books, guides and courses is undertaken at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author and publisher accept no liability for any loss, injury, damage or expense arising from following, or failing to follow, anything we publish.

Know the limits

Our material does not teach structural, electrical, plumbing, gas, roofing, or carpentry work, and never asks you to attempt any of them. Where a task approaches one of those trades, the instruction is always to stop and call a qualified professional. If a job requires a licensed trade where you live, use one.

Cleaning products are chemicals

  • Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions, warnings and dilution directions. The label always takes precedence over anything we write.
  • Never mix cleaning products, in particular anything containing bleach with anything containing ammonia or acid. Mixing can release dangerous gases.
  • Ventilate the room, and use one product at a time.
  • Test any method on a small hidden area before using it on a whole surface.

Tools, power and height

  • Unplug corded tools and appliances, or remove the battery from cordless ones, before cleaning them.
  • Use a stable step ladder on a level surface. Do not stand on furniture, boxes, or the top step.
  • Keep water away from sockets, power strips and charging equipment.

Children and pets

Keep cleaning products, tools, batteries and medicines out of reach and, where possible, locked. Never leave a task, a chemical, or a tool unattended where a child or an animal can reach it.

In an emergency

If someone is injured, swallows a household product, or is exposed to fumes, contact your local emergency number or your regional poison control service immediately. If you smell gas, leave the area, do not operate switches or flames, and call your gas supplier or emergency services from outside.

Disposal

Dispose of medicines and hazardous household waste according to your local authority, pharmacy take-back scheme, or national regulator. Local rules differ and they take precedence over any general suggestion we make.

Not professional advice

Where our material touches on infant sleep, allergies, medicines, pets, or anything affecting health, it is describing general household organization only. It is not medical or veterinary advice. Consult a qualified professional about your own circumstances.
