Affiliate disclosure

Today, nothing on this site earns us a commission. We have applied to a handful of retailer affiliate programmes and none of them has been approved, so there is not one link here that pays us when you click it or buy through it.
The day that changes, this page changes with it, and every link it applies to will be marked where you see it, not only here.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is an ordinary link to a shop with a code attached that tells the shop who sent you. If you buy something after following one, the shop pays the sender a small share of the sale. You pay the same price either way: the commission comes out of the retailer's margin, not out of your pocket.
It is a normal way for a site like this to cover its costs, and it is also the reason to be careful. A link that pays is a reason to recommend something, and you cannot see it from the outside. So the rule here is that you are told before the links, on the page you are reading, and not only in a policy nobody opens.
Where affiliate links would appear
In a small number of places, if we are ever approved. Mainly the kit page, which lists the eight things the method actually asks for, and the room and micro zone pages, where a particular type of product is called for by the work. Each of those pages carries the disclosure at the top, above the first link, so you meet it before you meet them.
Where they will never appear
Never inside anything you buy or download from us. Not in the book, not in the Micro Zone Manual, not in the Print Pack, not in a card deck, not in a file we email you. Amazon's terms forbid affiliate links in offline documents and other programmes say much the same, but we would hold to it regardless: you paid for that file, and it should not be an advert. Our build check reads every file a customer receives and refuses to ship one that contains a tracked link.
How we choose what to recommend
We recommend a kind of thing before we recommend a brand: a five-way sort container set, a neutral pH cleaner, a shallow drawer insert. Often the honest answer is that you already own something that will do the job, and we would rather say so than sell you a second one.
Where a specific product is named, the reason sits next to it in the method's own terms, so you can judge whether it applies to your house. A commission does not decide what gets listed, what order it appears in, or what we say about it. If we could not defend a recommendation to someone who paid us nothing, it does not belong on the page.
If Amazon approves us
Amazon requires one sentence on every page that carries one of its links, and we will add it word for word: “As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.” It is not on this site today, because today it is not true.
What we are not
- Not sponsored. No retailer or manufacturer pays us to feature a product, and we have no paid placement arrangements. If we ever accept one, or a free sample to write about, it will be labelled on the page where it appears.
- Not review-driven. There are no star ratings, testimonials or customer counts anywhere on this site. Nobody has given us one yet, and inventing them is not something we are willing to do.
- Not an advertising network. The site runs no ad code, no tracking pixels and no third-party scripts at all. That is set out in full on the privacy page.
Where our money actually comes from
Almost all of it comes from things we made: the book, the Micro Zone Manual, the printable packs, the card decks, and consulting time. How we make money covers that side in full, including the things we will not do to sell them.
